How can I pay for my home insurance policy?
For your home, contents and car insurance, we offer direct debit from either a bank account or credit card. By taking payments automatically from your account or credit card, you don't need to worry about calling us to pay for your policy- it's done for you!
Can I delay my monthly payment?
We are unable to delay payments. If however, during your policy period, one of your payments is unsuccessful, you have 30 days from your payment due date to arrange payment before your policy is cancelled. If your policy is being renewed, you will have 14 days from your payment due date to make this payment.
Can I pay my premium fortnightly?
We do not offer fortnightly payments, but we do offer annual and monthly payments. The great news is we don't charge you any extra if you pay by the month.
Does it cost any extra if I pay by the month?
No, we don't charge you any extra to pay your contents and home insurance policy by the month. At Real Insurance, we pride ourselves on the fact that we don't have any hidden admin fees on our policies.
Do I have to fill out forms to make a claim?
Fortunately for you, most of the home and contents insurance claims process can be completed over the telephone. To ensure we get all of the details right, we may ask you to put pen to paper to assist us in finalising the claim. Our claims team will be able to help you through this process.
Do I need to know the measurements for my house?
To insure your home with us, we do not need to know the exact measurements of your home. We do need to know your address and the age of the home. You will need to let us know the construction type of the home and roof (e.g. bricks, cladding, tiles etc) and the security measures of the home (e.g. alarms, deadlocks etc).
Do you have insurance for accidental damage?
Here at Real Insurance we understand that accidents sometimes happen! So we are proud to offer cover for accidental damage as part of our Top Cover for home and contents insurance. So if you were to spill paint on your carpet or break a chair accidentally, you would be covered. More information is available on the
accidental damage cover page.
While our Essential home and contents insurance policy does not cover you for accidental damage, it does cover you for accidental glass breakage. This would cover you for accidental damage to items like shower screens and mirrors. Full details of the cover and exclusions can be found in our
Product Disclosure Statements.
Do you offer business insurance?
We do not offer a business insurance product, but if you do run a business from home we may be able to still insure your home and/or contents as long as certain criteria are met. Call us on 1300 30 16 18 for more information.

You can find your nominated level of excess on your home or contents insurance certificates, mailed to you when you took out your policy with Real Insurance, or when your policy renewed. If you cannot find your insurance documents, you can contact our call centre on 1300 30 16 18 to find out.
How do I know how much I should insure my home for?
We can only provide general advice about your home and contents insurance; we can't provide you with advice around the replacement cost of your home. The sum insured for your home insurance should include the rebuild cost of your home, not including land value, but including allowances for the clearance of debris from the land in the event of a total loss. If you are unsure of the replacement cost you can consult a builder or architect and they should be able to assist you.
I’ve divorced/separated from my partner, who is listed on my insurance.
If you have gone through a divorce or separation from a de facto partner listed on your contents or home insurance documents, please contact our call centre team on 1300 30 16 18. As each situation is different, we can discuss your needs confidentially over the phone, and make any necessary changes to your policy.

Is there a way to make my home and contents insurance premium cheaper?
By using the handy slider bars on our online home and contents insurance quote, you can adjust your cover and price to what best suits your needs. By increasing your excess, you can make your premium cheaper. Just be sure to remember that even though your premium is cheaper, you will have a higher excess to pay if you need to claim.
I've just received my renewal documentation, what do I need to do?
One of the great things about having your contents and home insurance with Real Insurance is our automatic renewal process. So, when you receive your renewal letter, simply read over the information and check all details are correct. Then all you need to do is sit back and your policy will renew automatically.
If you have given us credit card or direct debit details, we will debit the payment from this account on your usual payment date. If you are paying by cheque, you will need to send us a cheque by the renewal date. You don't need to call us unless you need to notify us of any changes to your policy or details, it renews automatically for you!.
My current insurer offers me an "unlimited" building sum insured, why don't you?
With Real, by choosing your own sum insured for your home and contents insurance, you have peace of mind, knowing that up to that amount may be available to you if you suffer a total loss of your home. We are providing you with a premium for your home insurance that covers the replacement cost of your home; there is no advantage in being over-insured or paying a higher premium because of this.
