The UK Press Association has conducted research suggesting that 1 in 10 UK parents is committing car insurance fraud for the benefit of their children.
The practice, known as 'fronting' involves the parent taking out the car insurance policy in their own name, when their child is really the main (or only) driver of the car.
By doing this, the car insurance premiums are comparatively much cheaper than if the car insurance was taken out by the child.
The study found that women were more willing to participate in this type of car insurance fraud, while 57% of people surveyed did not realise the practise was illegal.
