The Real Needs staff went to the NSW Cancer Council in Woolloomooloo to assist with putting around 500 Clear packs together.
The packs were for the CLEAR Study, a case/control cancer epidemiology study being conducted at the NSW Cancer Council. (CLEAR stands for ‘Cancer, Lifestyle and Evaluation of Risk.) They are recruiting patients with a recent diagnosis of any cancer and asking them to fill out a questionnaire and provide a small blood sample. They are storing this information (and samples) in a databank and bio bank until they have enough information to start answering some questions about cancer causes. They currently have over 6,000 people in the study and some analysis of the information has begun.
