Make-A-Wish Australia

On September 9, Real Needs volunteers Amelia, Andrea, Cassandra, Daisy and Raj boarded the Pacific Jewel Cruise Liner to volunteer on a gala fundraising event for the Make-A-Wish Australia. This extraordinary organisation has granted almost 7,000 wishes to Australian children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The team were kept busy throughout the day. To start with, Cassandra, Daisy and Raj assisted immigration officers with checking in all the guests, while Amelia and Andrea helped set up prizes for the silent auction, then escorted guests to their tables. The team also took photographs throughout the event, sold raffle tickets, helped with the auction and assisted with the cleanup after lunch. They even helped check out the guests, winning praise from P&O staff for their efficiency.

At the luncheon, the team met a woman who was very grateful that her wish came true when her granddaughter met Britney Spears last year in the United States. They also heard more heartening stories of other wishes that were granted — owning a boat for a day, being a princess for a day or going to Disney World.

Leah from Make-A-Wish Australia thanked the Real Needs team afterward, saying “We simply could not have done it without you.”
