Tsunamis are a series of ocean waves that result from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other such events. They can devastate coastlines due to the sheer amount of water that can be quickly displaced. Unfortunately, tsunamis cannot be predicted with accuracy, although information regarding a seismic event allows for tsunami warnings that can ultimately save lives. Since the occurrence of the devastating Asian tsunami in 2004, national governments around the world have been working on improved ways to address the coastal threats posed by tsunamis. These include tsunami warning systems installed in the oceans and computer models that can better predict potential tsunami arrivals.
