Our Plans

When it comes to travel, we understand everyone’s needs are different so that’s why we offer a variety of plans to choose from. Depending on your age, where you’re travelling to and how long you’ll be away, you can choose from one of the following plans to suit your travel needs.

Essentials

Designed for your travel essentials. This is our most basic level of cover and includes overseas medical, hospital and dental expenses, and personal liability for a single overseas trip1.

Comprehensive

Looking for a little more? This plan includes everything from our Essentials Cover and more, as well as the option to apply for additional protection such as our Snow, Cruise and Adventure Packs for an extra premium1.

Domestic

Whether you’re flying, driving, taking a bus or the train – our Domestic Cover is designed for a single trip within Australia1. This plan is designed to cover for personal liability, lost or stolen luggage, trip cancellation, and more1.

Multi-Trip

Planning a few trips? This plan covers you for multiple trips within a 12-month period. It’s designed to cover all the benefits of our Comprehensive Cover for overseas trips and all the benefits of our Domestic Cover for trips within Australia1.

Plus, for an extra premium, you may be eligible to apply for additional protection such as Snow, Cruise and Adventure Packs.

Things you should know

  • Terms, conditions, limits, sub-limits and exclusions apply to each level of cover and optional packs. For full details and to decide which cover and/or optional pack is right for you, refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and the Target Market Determination (TMD).
  • A general exclusion applies to all cover if a claim arises due to not following an advice or travel alert by the Australian government or published in a reliable mass media source prior to commencement of your travel.
  • Age eligibility applies for some cover levels and additional optional packs.
  • Policies have a base excess applicable to all claims apart from some benefits as listed in the PDS. You have the option to vary the base excess, however this may alter your premium.
  • Some medical conditions may not be covered or able to be accepted as a pre-existing condition. Our online medical assessment provides an instant outcome. If accepted, an additional premium and a medical excess may be applicable.
  • Cover for Personal Liability is not included in the additional Adventure Pack or the Snow Pack options.
Epidemics and Pandemics

Epidemics and Pandemics

Travel is a very different experience to how things were before COVID-19 became a worldwide pandemic. Along with proof of vaccination and mandatory COVID-19 screening, some countries may require proof of medical cover before you can be granted entry, which comes with its own challenges.

Travel insurance products may include general exclusions for epidemics and pandemics, however, with Real Travel Insurance, you may be covered under selected benefits, if during your period of cover, you are positively diagnosed as suffering an illness related to an epidemic or pandemic, such as COVID-19.

Also, if a COVID-19 border closure or mandatory quarantine period prevents you from travelling or requires you to shorten your journey, you may be entitled to cancel your policy and receive a partial or full premium refund.

For a list of the benefits that are available should you be diagnosed with an illness related to an epidemic or pandemic, and the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions that apply, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement

Remember when travelling, it’s important to stay up-to-date with the latest travel information from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Smartraveller website, World Health Organisation (WHO), and Department of Home Affairs

Keep in mind, your policy contains a general exclusion in which no cover will be provided if a claim arises due to you not following an advice or travel alert by the Australian government or published in a reliable mass media source.

Optional Cover

When it comes to travel, not everyone’s needs are the same! With Real Travel Insurance you can choose from a range of optional extras to add to your Comprehensive, Multi-Trip or Domestic travel policy.

For an extra premium, you have the opportunity to boost your cover by applying to add one of the following packs:

Snow Pack

If you’re looking for more cover for your snow trip, then check out our Snow Pack. You may be eligible to add this optional cover, which is designed to cover a range of winter sport activities including amateur skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tobogganing, or tubing1.

Cruise Pack

Heading on a cruise? Our Cruise Pack is designed to cover onboard medical costs, ship to shore evacuation, pre‑paid shore excursion cancellation, cabin confinement and more1.

Adventure Pack

If you’re the kind of traveller who enjoys a healthy dose of adrenaline, buckle up. You may be eligible to add our Adventure Pack, which is designed to cover a wide range of activities including motorcycles, mopeds and scooters, quad biking, zip lining, river tubing, animal handling and more1.

Increased Item Limits Cover

If you like to take your valuables with you, no matter where you are in the world, then add Increased Item Limits Cover to your policy. It means those precious belongings may be covered for a higher value than the standard limits in case they get lost, damaged or stolen during your trip1.

Cover Types

No two holidays are the same, so why should your travel insurance be any different? Depending on the plan you choose for your unique travel needs, one of the following cover types will be assigned to your Real Travel Insurance policy. These cover types will help you to identify which benefit limits apply to you. The below are summaries only.

  • Single Cover

Insurance for the single traveller, plus any dependants accompanying you. To be eligible, all dependants must be named on your Certificate of Insurance, be under 25 years old and not working full-time, and must travel with you for the entire journey1.

  • Duo Cover

Whether you’re exploring the world with a friend or enjoying a romantic getaway, this policy covers you and one other traveller. To be eligible, your travelling companion can’t be a dependant, and must be named on the Certificate of Insurance, and be with you for at least 75% of your journey1.

  • Family Cover

When your travel plans grow, so too can your insurance! Our Family Cover provides protection for you, your spouse or partner, and any dependants who will be accompanying you. To be eligible, all dependants named on the Certificate of Insurance must be under 25 years old, can’t be working full-time, and must travel with you for the entire journey1.
