Things you should know

  • A general exclusion applies to all cover if a claim arises due to not following an advice or travel alert by the Australian government or published in a reliable mass media source prior to commencement of your travel.
  • Age eligibility applies for some cover levels and additional optional packs.
  • Policies have a base excess applicable to all claims apart from some benefits as listed in the PDS. You have the option to vary the base excess, however this may alter your premium.
  • Some medical conditions may not be covered or able to be accepted as a pre-existing condition. Our online medical assessment provides an instant outcome. If accepted, an additional premium and a medical excess may be applicable.
  • Cover for Personal Liability is not included in the additional Adventure Pack or the Snow Pack options.
Travel alerts and Warnings

Travel alerts and Warnings

Always consult the Smartraveller website prior to any travel.

There is no cover under any benefit of this policy if your claim arises because you didn't follow an advice or warning that a reasonable person would have been aware of, that has been issued by the Australian government (when a ‘reconsider your need to travel’ or ‘do not travel’ alert is in place), which can be found on Smartraveller; or which was published in a reliable mass media source. This applies even if an Australian government has given you permission to travel, or you fall under a specific exemption where there is otherwise a travel ban in place1.

In addition to visas, countries may require proof of COVID-19 test results; vaccination requirements; and compulsory travel insurance, with proof of adequate medical benefit cover. Check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination you are entering. If you require additional documentation regarding your international travel insurance policy due to international entry requirements, please contact us on 1300 551 513.

Before buying our travel insurance, and while you’re travelling, check Smartraveller and Allianz Partners for travel alerts or advisories for your intended destination(s).

Optional addition

If during the period of your cover you are positively diagnosed with a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic (such as COVID-19), cover may be available under some sections of your policy. Consult your Product Disclosure Statement for details. Make sure you stay up to date and comply with travel information for COVID-19 from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Smartraveller website, World Health Organization (WHO), and the Department of Home Affairs.

Optional Cover

For an additional premium, you may be eligible to add one or more of the following optional covers to Comprehensive, Multi-Trip and Domestic plans1. These are summaries only.

Snow Pack

If you’re looking for more cover for your snow trip, then check out our Snow Pack. You may be eligible to add this optional cover, which is designed to cover a range of winter sport activities including amateur skiing, snowboarding, sledding, tobogganing, or tubing1.

Cruise Pack

Heading on a cruise? Our Cruise Pack is designed to cover onboard medical costs, ship to shore evacuation, pre‑paid shore excursion cancellation, cabin confinement and more1.

Adventure Pack

Doing adventure activities? You may be eligible to add an Adventure Pack to your plan that is designed to cover a wide range of adventure activities including riding motorcycles, mopeds and scooters, quad biking, zip lining, river tubing, animal handling, and much more1.

Increased Item Limits Cover

Taking higher-value items? To increase the item for higher-value items, add Increased Item Limits Cover to your plan, so your item may be covered for a higher value, should it be stolen, lost or damaged1.
