Standard Accident & Illness Cover

Real Standard Accident & Illness Cover is essential for when your pet falls ill or has an accident. We cover up to 75% of eligible vet costs, up to a maximum of $12,000 a year (exclusions, limits and sub-limits may apply), so you can give your dog or cat the care they need to help them get well.

What’s Covered?

  • Up to 75% of eligible vet bills1 (with no excess) for treating specified accidental injuries, including injuries from car accidents, burns, snake bites and allergic reactions to insect bites
  • Up to 75% of the cost of treating a range of illnesses, excluding some Pre-existing Conditions2 and certain specified illnesses
  • Claim limit of up to $12,000 per year to help protect your pet if they need prolonged or expensive treatment
  • A range of additional benefits, including emergency boarding when you’re in hospital; overseas cover when travelling with your pet to NZ and Norfolk Island; tick paralysis treatment; and essential euthanasia1
  • Lifetime cover for as long as we continue to offer the product, provided there are no breaks in cover, and subject to the terms and conditions of the policy
  • Freedom to take your pet to any registered vet in Australia
  • 0 day waiting period for specified accidental injuries - claim the day after your policy starts
  • 30-day waiting period for illnesses
  • 6 month waiting period for Cruciate Ligament Conditions (may be waived on application)

Add Optional Routine Care Benefit

By adding a Routine Care Benefit to your Premium Accident & Illness Cover, you’ll receive a benefit of up to $80 per year to help cover the costs of routine and preventative care such as vaccinations, flea control, health checks and even microchipping.

How old does my pet have to be to get pet insurance?

You can insure your pet as soon as they’re eight weeks old. With our Premium and Standard Accident and Illness Covers, they also need to join before they turn nine, and before they turn sixteen for our Classic Accident and Illness Cover.

Can I continue to insure my pet as it gets older?

Absolutely. Once you have insurance for your pet, you can keep renewing your policy with us for the rest of its life, provided there is no break in your cover, with cover subject to the terms and conditions of your renewal policy.

I already have a wonderful vet. Can my pet still visit them?

Absolutely! Our pet insurance helps to cover eligible vet bills from any registered vet in Australia.

Does my pet insurance have an excess?

No, Real Pet Insurance does not have a fixed excess. Depending on the plan you choose, we reimburse up to 80% of all eligible veterinary expenses.
