Real Insurance employees will be running in the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k raising money for the Starlight Foundation and RedKite.
These two charities do amazing work via programs with sick children, their families and through raising funds for vital research into cancer treatment.
The Sydney Harbour 10K, in its second year, is taking place on Sunday July 14th starting from George Street in The Rocks. As the course is completely flat, it is popular as a training run for people taking part in longer runs, such as the City 2 Surf in August, but it is also perfect for beginners looking to run their first long race.
If you haven’t signed up, there is still plenty of time to enter the race and register for fundraising. To register, visit sydneyharbour10k.com, register as a runner and select the charity you wish to support. You can then set up your fundraising page by visiting gofundraise.com.au.
Here is a small snapshot of some of the work from Real Insurance’s chosen charities:
The Starlight Foundation
Starting in 1988, the Starlight Foundation works to help seriously ill children by providing enjoyable programs for them and their families.
Living with illness can cause strain in the lives of children and their families. The Starlight Foundation’s programs are designed to bring enjoyment to children who are undergoing serious medical treatment, and to brighten the lives of their parents and families. Their projects include special rooms at hospitals with games, entertainment, art and craft as well as programs which allow for children to have a wish granted.
Donations to Starlight go towards their life changing programs such as Starlight Wish Granting, Starlight Fun Centres, Starlight TV and Captain Starlight. The programs are run both inside and outside of hospital and aim to provide a positive distraction in sick children’s lives.
RedKite works with children and young adults, up to the age of 24, diagnosed with cancer through supporting their families with financial assistance, emotional support and educational assistance. RedKite’s aim is to help by taking away financial and emotional stress so that families can focus on treatment and building their support networks.
The support is provided during treatment and hospitalisation in the form of grants, financial counselling and emotional support with social workers and music therapists, as well as counselling, bereavement support and organising special days for families.
RedKite aims to provide support for families throughout all of their experiences whilst dealing with cancer. Support extends from inside the hospital during treatment to financial to emotional and counselling facilities. The organisation is non-government funded, therefore relying completely on fundraising support.
You can help Real Insurance support these great charities by participating in the Sydney Harbour 10K and fundraising on their behalf. The race takes in some breathtaking scenery of the harbour and city.
